Archived from groups: alt>pets>parrots>cockatiels (more info?)

I have a male and a female cockatiel. For the past couple of years, the
female will lay eggs in the nest box (usually 2-3 per month) after they have
mated. She will sit on the eggs from sunrise until about noon, then the male
will sit on the eggs from noon til about 5pm (or when it gets dark). Then
they both stand on the perch all night and repeat the process the next day.

Obvoiusly no eggs have ever hatched because the eggs get cold at night. I
have heard that the male is supposed to sit on the eggs at night, but
neither one of them want to work the night shift.

Anyone else experience this problem? Any suggestions on teaching these birds
how to keep the eggs warm at night?

TIA

My female used to sit on the eggs and she wouldn't let the male near them
until she switched mates. Now they do it right. The eggs could still hatch.
How old are the birds?

The male is about 5 years old, and the female about 6.

Don't the eggs need to be kept at a certain temperature? I am considering
setting up an incubator.
